The Tug Boat Sumpter was built in 1958, in Bayou la Batra, Alabama. She was renamed the Barbra Lynn in 1989. One year later, on October 1, 1990, she sank in Lake Huron, 12 miles north of Huron City. She was pulling two construction barges to Alpena, MI. One life was lost. She settled at 200 feet.

Bay Marine began salvage operations to raise the tug in the Spring of 2008.

In early September of 2009 she was moved into 120 feet of water and efforts have been ongoing throughout the summer of 2010 to get ready for the final lift to the surface.
